Gravy, in North Portland

Gravy is a busy breakfast cafe in Portland Oregon, on North Mississippi Ave. It's the kind of place that gets way too busy on weekends, killing any chance of a decent review of the place. Thus, I chose to go on a late Thursday morning. It was still pretty busy. The waitress asked us if we wanted a shot in our coffee - "Bailey's or Jameson?" I hate that shit in my coffee, so I said no. The coffee was pretty good as is.

The gravy is brown with a slight orange tint to it. It has a good amount of sausage throughout and there are bits of fennel in there as well, which I thought was an interesting and good combination. It's definitely rich and decadent and it left me not wanting another meal for the next few weeks or something. Overall the flavor definitely lived up to the name of the place!

They serve large biscuits that are fluffy inside and crisp in the best way on the outside, like it had been baked in a muffin tin. It tastes like it has a little cornmeal in there along with the buttermilk. These are some of the best biscuits I've had in a while, and rank among the best in Portland.

The price was $6.50 for 2 biscuits and 1.50 for 1 egg over easy.
